Algerian Boxer Khelif Wins Semi-Final Amid Controversy

Algeria's Imane Khelif defeated Thailand's Janjaem Suwannapheng by unanimous decision in the Paris 2024 women's 66kg semi-final on 6 August 2024.

The win sent Khelif into the final. Three days later, she defeated China's Yang Liu 5-0 to win the gold medal.

The semi-final took place amid intense public scrutiny over Khelif's eligibility. The Paris 2024 Boxing Unit and International Olympic Committee said all boxers in the tournament met the applicable eligibility and medical rules. Their joint statement described the International Boxing Association's 2023 disqualifications of Khelif and Lin Yu-ting as sudden and arbitrary.
