A clip posted by SG Daily on 13 April 2026 showed service 36 heading for Changi Airport packed at 7.28am, with luggage occupying the space reserved for wheelchairs and strollers. A bag handle was seen protruding into the legroom of an empty priority seat.
Go-Ahead Singapore, which operates the route, said it is aware that more commuters travel with luggage on this bus but that safety and accessibility will not be compromised. The operator said bus captains will step in to regulate boarding when the bus is crowded, and asked commuters to be considerate when travelling with bags.
LTA trialled multi-tier luggage racks on one service 36 bus from August to November 2025 and said the racks reduced blocking of aisles and priority areas. It will fit the racks on 12 single-deck buses on the route, with installation expected by the second quarter of 2027 and no change to fares.
Some commenters said crowding is unavoidable on the only direct bus between Changi Airport and the city. Others raised safety concerns about the obstruction, including what it would mean during a fire.
