Crowds built up at Woodlands Checkpoint from midnight on Good Friday, 3 April 2026, as Malaysians working in Singapore headed home for a long weekend that coincided with Qing Ming. Clips posted by SG Daily showed buses and travellers backed up across the weekend.
ICA had warned of very heavy traffic at both land checkpoints from 3 to 5 April. Waiting times for cars reached up to three hours at peak periods because of tailback from Malaysia, and the authority lifted its heavy traffic advisory at about 9.38am on 3 April.
More than 1.4 million travellers crossed the Woodlands and Tuas checkpoints over the weekend, with traffic peaking on 4 April at more than 498,000 crossings in a single day. ICA advised travellers to consider cross-border buses and to travel outside peak hours.
