A matchmaking agency at Orchard Plaza that introduces local clients to foreign spouses is being offered for transfer at S$99,000 after 24 years in business.
The agency was founded in 2002 by its 63-year-old owner, Lin. He said the business has matched more than 1,000 couples.
Lin recalled going door to door in the Katong area before opening the agency to ask residents if they were interested in meeting a foreign marriage partner. He said nine out of 10 households rejected him at the time.
As part of the proposed handover, Lin is willing to train the new owner for one year. He also wants the buyer to retain an employee who has worked with him for more than 20 years.
He hopes to find a buyer before he turns 65 at the end of 2027. Lin said the agency will close by then if nobody takes over.
