Workers' Party secretary-general Pritam Singh was photographed on an MRT train in the days after Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong urged Singaporeans to take public transport. A commuter told Mothership he saw Singh board an East West Line train towards City Hall at about 9.10am on 8 April 2026, standing and reading a newspaper.

Gan made the call in a ministerial statement in Parliament on 7 April 2026, as part of measures to manage rising energy costs linked to the Middle East conflict. He suggested taking public transport instead of driving and using fans instead of air conditioning.

The photo of Singh circulated on Reddit on 10 April 2026, the same day Gan rode the Punggol East LRT loop with fellow MPs, staff and a camera crew. The pairing drew hundreds of comments on r/singapore, with many users calling Gan's outing staged and praising Singh's ordinary commute.

Singh is the MP for Aljunied GRC. The photo's original date has not been confirmed by the person who took it, and the image first appeared online on 10 April.
