Commuters were evacuated from a train at Sembawang MRT station on the evening of 13 April 2026 after smoke was seen coming from underneath the carriage.
SMRT Trains president Lam Sheau Kai said smoke was observed from the train's undercarriage at about 8.10pm. Preliminary checks indicated the smoke may have been caused by a brake that remained engaged and could not be released. Staff helped everyone on board to leave the train, which was then withdrawn from service for further checks.
SMRT said train services continued to run normally and no commuters needed medical assistance. A similar evacuation took place at nearby Admiralty MRT station on 16 March 2026.
