Eileen Gu was born and raised in San Francisco and began competing for China in 2019, when she was 15. Gu has said the decision reflected her Chinese heritage and her hope of encouraging more young people to try winter sports.
She won two gold medals and one silver at Beijing 2022. At Milano Cortina 2026, she added one gold and two silvers, giving her six Olympic medals across big air, halfpipe and slopestyle.
Her sporting profile also turned into a large endorsement business. CBN Data estimated that Gu earned more than 200 million yuan, about US$31.4 million, from brand deals in 2021. Sportico later estimated her 2025 earnings at US$23 million, largely from endorsements. These are industry estimates rather than disclosed contract totals.
Gu has worked with sports, fashion and consumer brands while studying international relations at Stanford University.
