Police Officer Jailed 78 Months for Taking S$32,500 in Bribes

Police officer Poo Tze Chiang was sentenced to 78 months' jail on Aug 16, 2024, for corruption and obstructing the course of justice.

The Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau said Poo accepted S$32,500 in cash and loans from Cordell Chan Yuen Kwang and Wang Huate. In return, he shielded the two secret society members from police action on three occasions.

Poo was convicted of seven corruption charges and three obstruction charges. The court also ordered him to pay a S$32,500 penalty, with another 14 weeks' jail if he failed to pay it.

He was a station inspector with the Singapore Police Force's Secret Societies Branch when the offences took place.
