Singaporean grassroots leader Joseph Tan died after collapsing at a badminton event in Johor Bahru on Aug 18, 2024. He was 43.
AsiaOne, citing Shin Min Daily News, reported that Tan played two games before going to shower. His wife found him unconscious after he did not come out, and friends performed CPR before medical help arrived. He was later pronounced dead at hospital, with a heart attack reported as the cause.
Tan had volunteered at meet-the-people sessions and mentored children. Punggol West MP Sun Xueling paid tribute to him and said his death had shocked those who knew him.
Tan's body was brought back to Singapore after the incident.
