Tan Xianglong, 37, was sentenced to three years and 10 months' jail on 29 August 2024 after planting 11 packets of cannabis in his estranged wife's car.
CNA reported that the packets weighed more than 500g and contained at least 216.17g of cannabis. Tan pleaded guilty to possessing the drug, while a charge of fabricating false evidence was considered during sentencing.
His wife noticed him near her car through an in-car camera app and called the police. Officers found the packets in the vehicle, and a search of her room found nothing incriminating.
The court heard that Tan wanted to get his wife into legal trouble after their relationship broke down. He knew that trafficking more than 500g of cannabis could carry the death penalty in Singapore.
