Singapore motorists owed about RM3.5 million in unpaid Malaysian traffic fines, according to figures reported in August 2024. The amount was worth roughly S$1 million at the time.
Singaporeans accounted for 35,011 of the 51,128 outstanding summonses involving motorists from Singapore, Brunei and Thailand between 1990 and June 2024. They formed the largest group of foreign motorists with unpaid fines.
The offences included speeding, running red lights and using a phone while driving. Malaysia's traffic police said offenders would be notified about outstanding summonses and urged motorists to settle them.
