Visiting Bukit Brown Cemetery During the 7th Month

SG Daily visited Bukit Brown Cemetery during the 7th Month in August 2024, walking past old tombs, dense greenery and the site's warning signs.

Bukit Brown opened in 1922 as Singapore's first Chinese municipal cemetery. The National Heritage Board says the cemetery and its adjoining burial grounds preserve inscriptions, layouts and grave features that document Singapore's Chinese community and migration history.

The cemetery closed to burials in 1973. The Singapore Heritage Society maintains a self-guided trail covering 25 tombs in Blocks 1 and 3, with access from Lorong Halwa and limited parking nearby.

The video's spooky tone reflects its 7th Month framing. Visitors should treat the grounds as a burial site, keep to established paths and respect people paying tribute to their ancestors.
