Woman Fined S$5,000 for Stealing Gold Necklace After Offering Massage

Chen Ronghua was fined S$5,000 on Aug 15, 2024, after pleading guilty to stealing a gold necklace from a 76-year-old man in Geylang.

The pair met while having lunch and agreed that Chen would give the man a massage for S$40. They went to a hotel on Lorong 20 Geylang, where the man removed his necklace before taking a shower.

Chen took the necklace from his bag and left. Police arrested her later that day at her accommodation on Lorong 22 and recovered the jewellery.

Channel NewsAsia reported that the necklace was worth S$5,000. Court records later showed that Chen did not pay the fine and received two weeks' jail instead.
